Greenville County Winery Wins Seven Gold Medals in 2019 Palmetto Wine Competition

GREENVILLE, S.C. - May 13, 2019 - EntSun -- A local Upstate South Carolina Winery was just awarded two double-gold medals, five double gold medals, three silver medals, five bronze medals, and best overall Estate Grown Wine in the 2019 Palmetto Wine Competition.

The 2nd annual Palmetto Wine Competition was held on May 7th, 2019 at the historic Belmont Inn in Abbeville, South Carolina. The competition featured forty-nine wines produced and bottled by eight different wineries throughout the state of South Carolina.

The competition's organizers, Dennis and Jenni Turner, stated, "The goal is not to find the best wine, but to find the wine best to its style and varietal standard. In other words, wines aren't judged against others in the competition, they are judged on their own merit against the highest standard for that particular wine style and varietal. The one and only goal of The Palmetto Wine Competition is to promote in a positive way, the twenty plus wine, mead, and cider producers of South Carolina."

Judging was done by blind tasting with two separate panels of four judges from the wine industry. Wines were scored based on appearance, aroma, taste, texture, aftertaste and overall impression based on the American Wine Society Scale.
