EntSun News/11102791
WESTMINSTER ~ Westminster - Governor Jared Polis of Colorado joined leaders from all 50 states at the Hunt Institute's Early Childhood Leadership Summit today to showcase the state's successful data-driven policies that support families and young children.
During his speech, Governor Polis emphasized the importance of smart, data-driven policies in improving early childhood care. He expressed his excitement to share Colorado's success with leaders from across the country. The governor also highlighted how Colorado's expansion of access to early childhood education through free Universal Preschool is giving children a strong start, benefiting both families and the state's future.
This recognition comes after Governor Polis announced earlier this year that Colorado was ranked as the Best State for Education by U.S. News and World Report. Just a month later, he and the Colorado Department of Early Childhood announced that the state was ranked number one in the nation for child care workforce supports. These achievements demonstrate how Colorado's investments in early childhood are yielding tangible results for its residents.

In 2019, Governor Polis signed bipartisan legislation that established free, full-day kindergarten in Colorado, saving families thousands of dollars per year. This significant milestone was followed by voters approving free preschool in 2020, which will be implemented statewide in school year 2023. Currently, universal preschool saves families over $6,300 per year and has already served more than 129,000 children since its launch in 2023.
Governor Polis' participation in the Early Childhood Leadership Summit highlights Colorado's commitment to providing quality education and support for families and young children. With its data-driven policies and investments in early childhood education, Colorado continues to set an example for other states to follow.
