Gov. Kemp: Georgia Awarded $500 Million in Water Infrastructure Grants

ATLANTA ~ In a recent announcement, Governor Brian P. Kemp revealed that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted Georgia a total of $499,385,000 to support communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. This funding will be used to strengthen the resilience of drinking water and wastewater infrastructure and aid in responding to water-related emergencies.

The funds are a result of the 2025 American Relief Act and will be administered by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA). Governor Kemp expressed his gratitude for this assistance, stating that it will greatly aid in the ongoing recovery efforts from the devastating storm.

To be eligible for this Helene Resilience Funding (HRF), communities must demonstrate impacts from Hurricane Helene and propose a project that will reduce the risk and vulnerability of flood damage or enhance the resilience of drinking water and wastewater systems during natural disasters.

In preparation for the distribution of these funds, GEFA issued a call for projects in fall 2025. A list of submitted and fundable projects can be found on GEFA's website. Additionally, GEFA received funding under the American Relief Act to assist communities in responding to drinking water and wastewater emergencies.

The total amount awarded to GEFA is divided into five categories: HRF wastewater ($124.9 million), HRF decentralized wastewater ($8.96 million), HRF drinking water ($359.5 million), emergency wastewater ($3.3 million), and emergency drinking water ($2.75 million).

The first round of individual project awards will be presented to the GEFA board of directors for consideration at their November meeting.
