Georgia: Gov. Kemp Signs Legislation Cutting Red Tape and Streamlining Government

ATLANTA ~ In a move to streamline government processes and protect the state from foreign interference, Governor Brian P. Kemp of Georgia signed two bills into law on Tuesday. The signing ceremony was attended by First Lady Marty Kemp, constitutional officers, and members of the Georgia General Assembly.

The first bill, SB 96, was a top priority for Governor Kemp and was sponsored by Senator Drew Echols and Representative Matthew Gambill. It aims to reduce the administrative burden on state agencies by eliminating inactive boards and eliminating duplicative roles.

During the ceremony, Governor Kemp emphasized the importance of serving the people of Georgia and making their experiences with the government more efficient. He stated, "It's our job to help streamline their experiences with the government, make it easier for them to access opportunity, and limit as best we can the challenges they may face in accessing new skills and good careers."

The second bill signed into law was HB 113, also a priority for Governor Kemp. This bill, sponsored by Representative Lauren McDonald and Senator Bo Hatchett, directs the Georgia Technology Authority to maintain an updated list of companies and products produced or sold by countries designated as "foreign adversaries" by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce. This list will be used by state agencies in purchasing decisions to ensure greater security.

Governor Kemp also signed several other pieces of legislation that align with his commitment to eliminate government waste and reduce red tape. These include HB 148 which authorizes additional pathways for obtaining a CPA license; HB 322 which allows out-of-state dentists to obtain a teacher's or instructor's license while employed at an accredited school; HB 579 which streamlines the licensure process for various professions; HB 630 which simplifies administration for used motor vehicle dealers; HB 635 which makes licensing requirements more objective for contractors; and SB 125 which decouples licensing exams from experiential requirements.

Governor Kemp expressed his gratitude towards all those who worked diligently to make these bills a reality. He stated, "Thanks to the diligent work of our partners in the General Assembly, I'm proud to say that the bills I've signed today will help us accomplish [our goals]." These new laws are expected to bring greater efficiency and security to the state of Georgia.
