Georgia: Gov. Kemp Announces Atlanta Judicial Circuit Appointments

ATLANTA ~ Governor Brian P. Kemp of Georgia has announced the appointment of three new judges to the Superior Court of the Atlanta Judicial Circuit. The Honorable Debbie-Ann R. Rickman, David H. Emadi, and Nikia Smith Sellers have been selected to fill vacancies in the court.
Judge Debbie-Ann R. Rickman, currently serving as a Magistrate Judge in Fulton County, will be filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Honorable Shermela Williams. With experience presiding over both criminal and civil cases, Judge Rickman began her legal career as an Assistant Public Defender in the Atlanta Judicial Circuit and later served as an Assistant Solicitor-General in DeKalb County.
In addition to her work in the courtroom, Judge Rickman is actively involved in the legal community. She is a member of various committees and organizations, including the Council of Magistrate Court Judges and the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida International University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida.
David H. Emadi has been appointed to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Honorable Jane C. Barwick on the Superior Court of the Atlanta Judicial Circuit. Emadi brings a diverse background to his new role, having previously served as Director of the State Ethics Commission of Georgia and as a prosecutor in Douglas County.

Emadi's experience also includes time as a Major League Baseball scout with the Cincinnati Reds organization. In 2017, he was recognized as one of Georgia's top 30 lawyers under 40 by Daily Report magazine. He holds an undergraduate degree from University of Georgia and a Juris Doctor from Georgia State College of Law.
Nikia Smith Sellers will be filling a vacancy that will arise upon the appointment of Honorable Paige Reese Whitaker to the Georgia Court of Appeals. Sellers is currently serving as Deputy District Attorney in Fulton County with over ten years of experience in the office. She has also held leadership roles in various organizations that focus on mentorship and community service.
Sellers comes from a family with a strong tradition of public service, including her aunt Ruby Doris Smith Robinson, a civil rights leader. She holds a Juris Doctor from The Pennsylvania State University, Dickinson School of Law and is a member of the Atlanta Bar Association and the Georgia Association for Black Women Attorneys.
Governor Kemp's appointments have been met with praise from the legal community. The new judges will bring diverse backgrounds and experiences to the Superior Court of the Atlanta Judicial Circuit, ensuring fair and just decisions for all who come before them.
