Footwear Brand Brings Unique Design Approach to Waterproof/Insulated Kids Boots
EntSun News/10794377
Lightweight, flexible and proportionally engineered styles offer parents an alternative to traditional winter boots
BOTHELL, Wash. - EntSun -- For the most part, winter boots are relatively heavy, bulky and rigid compared to other types of footwear. For years the thinking was, bulky equals better. But thanks to new materials and technology, the thinking on what's best for kids' winter boots is shifting; and leading this transition is children's footwear brand, See Kai Run.
"Most kids' winter boots do a wonderful job protecting kids from cold-weather conditions," says See Kai Run CEO, Helen Rockey. "But not all deliver when it comes to promoting healthy foot development. We wanted to change that."
According to Rockey and the See Kai Run design team, kids' feet are different than adult feet and require shoes that allow feet to form naturally.
"Kids' feet are changing shape as they grow; fat pads dissolve, cartilage becomes bone, muscles strengthen, and over time arches develop," explains Rockey. "Kids' footwear, even winter boots need to promote this growth and development."

For the design team at See Kai Run, this meant designing a winter boot that follows the foot shape of a growing foot; something they call, proportional engineering. A winter boot also needs to be lightweight and flexible, which helps develop balance and stride.
"Because of new technologies and materials we're able to construct a boot that is lightweight and flexible and still protect little feet from cold-weather conditions," says Rockey.
See Kai Run makes both waterproof and waterproof/insulated boots for boys and girls in first walker to grade school sizes. Both styles are waterproof up to 10,000 millibars of water pressure for up to four hours. To achieve this durability, See Kai Run boots feature seam-sealed membrane construction and gusseted tongues that keep water and dirt out Rubber toe caps and deep lug treads on the outsole provide added protection and durability. Insulated styles features 3M Thinsulate™ lining that is cold rated to -35 degrees Fahrenheit.

"Having a boot that provides the protection and durability to handle cold-weather conditions while also promoting healthy foot development is a win-win for parents and kids," says Rockey.
