Edamam Releases a Hosted MCP Server for Food Logging Applications Built with Large Language Models and AI Agents
EntSun News/11090875
The Model Context Protocol server allows developers and companies to build fully functional food logging apps and solutions, leveraging Edamam's extensive food database.
NEW YORK - EntSun -- Edamam, the leading food and nutrition data solutions company, is launching a Model Context Protocol ("MCP") server that significantly simplifies building food logging solutions. The MCP server is hosted by Edamam and allows developers and companies to integrate with minimal engineering work to Edamam's industry-leading Food Database API, which leverages an extensive database of over 1 million foods and meals, analyzed and tagged for all nutrients, allergens, and lifestyle diets.

"The MCP server solution is responding to the needs of our customers, creating AI agents and solutions, using Generative AI," commented Victor Penev, Edamam's Founder and CEO.
The MCP server has the same pricing as Edamam's Food Database API. Software developers get API keys and can immediately start using Edamam's extensive Food Database. The primary use case for the MCP server so far is food logging, and Edamam enables a range of use cases that can be launched instantaneously:
"By making it very easy to build food logging solutions, we are providing an easy module to be integrated in any food tracking application for managing weight, health conditions, pairing with wearable or CGM data," added Victor Penev.

A key benefit is that users will no longer need to select from drop-down lists of foods or describe in single words what they have eaten. With the ability to link Edamam's MCP server to an LLM, companies can create solutions that enable a natural conversation that logs meals directly into a calendar or a food tracking app.
Edamam's MCP server returns the same data as its API, so people can track not only macronutrients, but also see the applicability of a meal or food to a specific diet and inquire about specific micronutrients.
Edamam plans to expand its MCP server to cover additional use cases for diet management, starting with recipe search, followed by personalized meal planning, and eventually a full personal virtual nutritionist suite of applications. Edamam is using its MCP server internally to build a series of AI Agents to support all of these use cases for clients that do not wish to do any development and want white-label solutions.
