Daniel Harel Opposes New School Policy on Lice Screenings, Warns of Risk to Students' Well-being
EntSun News/11035768
Lice Busters CEO Daniel Harel urges schools to reconsider policy changes that remove lice checks, citing risks of widespread infestations and the importance of early detection and mass screenings.
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - EntSun -- Lice Busters CEO Daniel Harel Opposes New School Policy on Lice Checks and Infestation Management
Daniel Harel, CEO of Lice Busters, the nation's leading lice removal and prevention service, is raising alarms over a proposed school policy that would eliminate routine lice checks and allow students with active infestations to remain in class. Harel believes this policy could lead to larger outbreaks and significantly impact students' well-being.
"Unchecked lice infestations are a recipe for disruption," says Harel. "This year alone, we've seen some classrooms where 1 in 6 students have lice. Without routine screenings, that number could easily rise."
Consequences of Removing Screenings

According to Harel, mass screenings in schools play a critical role in identifying lice outbreaks early and limiting their spread. By removing these checks, schools risk allowing undetected infestations to worsen, ultimately causing more missed school days and added stress for students and parents.
"Early detection through mass screenings is key to preventing widespread outbreaks," Harel explains. "When schools stop screening, lice spread undetected, which means students suffer longer and parents face greater challenges dealing with the problem at home."
Harel also cautions that allowing students with active lice infestations to remain in class not only affects their learning but can also impact the entire school community. "We understand that removing students can be distressing, but failing to address the issue risks exposing others to lice unnecessarily."
A Call for Responsible Lice Management
Harel calls on school boards and policymakers to reconsider this new approach, stressing the importance of balanced lice management policies. He advocates for continued screenings paired with education on prevention and treatment, ensuring that both students' health and academic performance are protected.
