Community Leaders Gather in Corona for Dialogue & Friendship Iftar During Ramadan

An evening gathering brought together civic representatives, faith leaders, educators, and public service professionals to share a meal, learn about Ramadan traditions, and strengthen local relationships through open conversation.

CORONA, Calif. - EntSun -- Community members, faith leaders, educators, public officials, and first responders gathered in Corona on Saturday evening (March 7, 2026) for the Pacifica Institute 2nd Annual Dialogue & Friendship Iftar Dinner, an event designed to encourage cultural understanding and strengthen community relationships during the month of Ramadan.

Hosted by Pacifica Institute at the Circle City Center, the gathering welcomed approximately 60 attendees representing diverse backgrounds, professions, and faith traditions. The event provided an opportunity for participants to learn about Ramadan, the Islamic holy month observed by Muslims worldwide, while engaging in meaningful conversations with neighbors from different communities.

The evening featured a keynote address by Professor Jerald Whitehouse, who spoke about the importance of empathy, respectful dialogue, and active civic engagement in building stronger and more connected communities.

Local leaders and professionals from various organizations attended the program, including representatives from educational institutions, faith communities, nonprofit organizations, and public service sectors. Their participation reflected a shared commitment to fostering cooperation and mutual understanding across cultural and religious differences.

Among the attendees were local leaders and professionals including Ipyani Lockert, speaker and owner of Motivational Realizations; Jeanne Kataoka, Chair of the Humane Studies Department at Emerson Theological Institute; Jennifer Ward, Corona LDS Communications Director; Christine Cales, Development Officer at La Sierra University; Patricia Stansfield, Rector at Saint John the Baptist; Gernaro Waheed, President of the Riverside Interfaith Council; and Wes Speake, Corona City Council Member.

Several attendees noted that the evening marked their first experience attending an iftar, the traditional meal that breaks the daily fast during Ramadan. The program offered a welcoming environment where participants could ask questions, exchange perspectives, and gain insight into cultural traditions in a setting of openness and respect.
