Colorado: Governor Polis Signs New Laws Strengthening Front Range Passenger Rail and Delivering More Housing Coloradans Can Afford
EntSun News/11093164
FORT COLLINS ~ Fort Collins - In a significant step towards improving transportation options for Coloradans, Governor Jared Polis signed SB26-172 - Front Range Passenger Rail District into law today. The bill, sponsored by Senators Nick Hinrichsen and Cathy Kipp, and Representatives Andrew Boesenecker and Amy Paschal, expands the boundaries of the Front Range Passenger Rail District to include more municipalities and districts.
Governor Polis expressed his gratitude towards legislators, advocates, and local leaders for their efforts in making this project a reality. He emphasized the importance of investing in transportation to connect Coloradans to their homes, jobs, and favorite places to explore in the state. "This is all about saving Coloradans time and money," said Governor Polis.
Senate President Pro Tempore Cathy Kipp from Fort Collins also spoke about the benefits of this project for families in her community. "Front Range Passenger Rail is even closer to becoming a reality in Colorado," she said. "These communities are highly interconnected and our infrastructure should match how Coloradans live, work, and travel every day."

Senator Nick Hinrichsen from Pueblo echoed similar sentiments about the opportunities that this project will bring for his community. "Front Range Passenger Rail means opportunities for employment, visiting family, and enjoying everything Colorado has to offer," he said. "This bill lays the groundwork for this project to move forward and create limitless opportunities for communities along the Front Range."
Representative Amy Paschal from Colorado Springs highlighted how passenger rail can open up job opportunities and save money on transportation costs. She also mentioned that this law creates a clear path for the Front Range Passenger Rail to take shape.
Speaker Pro Tempore Andy Boesenecker from Fort Collins expressed his excitement about bringing passenger rail to Colorado. "As we get closer to breaking ground on the project, we are narrowing in on details that will help make passenger rail a reality for the Front Range," he said. "From going to CSU games and a concert in Denver to commuting for work, the Front Range Passenger Rail will deliver a safe, dependable alternative to car travel."

In addition to SB26-172, Governor Polis also signed HB26-1313 - Adjust Requirements Statewide Affordable Housing Fund into law. This bill, sponsored by Representatives Andrew Boesenecker and Rebekah Stewart and Senators Matt Ball and Lisa Frizell, aims to expand and create more affordable housing options for Coloradans.
Governor Polis emphasized the importance of investing in housing for every budget as it is an investment into communities, the economy, and Colorado as a whole. He thanked the sponsors and advocates for their efforts in breaking down barriers to housing in the state.
Speaker Pro Tempore Andy Boesenecker also praised the collaboration between local governments, the legislature, advocates, and the state in finding solutions to ensure that Proposition 123 continues to make bold investments in housing across Colorado.
Senator Matt Ball from Denver highlighted how rising construction costs have made it difficult for even proactive local governments to meet production requirements for accessing affordable housing funds. He believes that this legislation will modernize Prop 123 requirements and allow more local governments to leverage dedicated funding for creating affordable housing.
With these two bills now signed into law, Colorado is one step closer towards improving transportation options and providing more affordable housing for its residents. The efforts of legislators, advocates, and local leaders have brought this project closer to becoming a reality.
