Colbert Packaging Sees Growth Opportunity in Secondary Packaging Inserts

Invests in new G&K Vijuk insert folding system in support of business strategy
KENOSHA, Wis. - EntSun -- Colbert Packaging Corporation, https://colbertpkg.com a leading manufacturer of custom paperboard folding cartons, labels, and inserts, today announced its investment in another key piece of capital equipment – a second G&K Vijuk MVII RTA outsert folding system. This addition supports the company's commitment to provide safe, smart, and sustainable secondary packaging solutions to the Pharma, Healthcare, and CPG industries.
This investment represents Colbert's strategic decision to increase support of its customers' specialty packaging needs in the area of microfolded inserts. At a time when industry consolidation is trending and many packaging suppliers are electing to exit package insert or instructions for use (IFU) production, Colbert Packaging's management team has chosen to double-down on its capabilities with regard to increased capacity in insert production.
"Our main concern each day is how to continually equip our manufacturing facilities to better serve our customers," states Colbert VP of Sales and Marketing, Ryan Hart. "We've seen what's happening with other packaging suppliers withdrawing from manufacturing inserts as part of their product offering. In response, we're increasing our capacity to produce what we've been experts at for decades."

Extended producer responsibility, regulatory advancements, and heightened labeling demands continue to drive Pharma, OTC Healthcare, Cosmetic, and Nutraceutical industry packaging requirements. Package insert (IFU) inclusion is becoming increasingly essential. These packaging components provide end users and consumers with critical information regarding user safety, intended use, instructions, warnings, and product end-of-life and recycling information. In recent years, there has been an industry assumption that, due to increasing electronic access to information, the need for printed informational inserts would be on the decline. However, aging population and regulatory requirements command an ongoing need for printed inserts. Colbert Packaging recognizes this growth opportunity and its alignment with the company's strategic plans.
This G&K Vijuk folding system is the second of its kind at Colbert Packaging's Kenosha facility. It is designed to produce inserts with up to 190 panels and folded to as small as 1.125" x 1.125" or 2" x 1". The R6 continuous round pile feeder supports nonstop production applications and offers extreme versatility in folding applications, along with a double-sheet detector and batch counter controlled through a touch-screen control unit. The system includes two fold stations that accommodate performing folds both parallel or at a right angle to the feeder. Its double-knife outsert attachment is specifically designed for the complexity of pharmaceutical RTA (right turn angle) style outserts. This fully programmable equipment includes a glue system, motorized transport system between fold stations, pressing unit, vertical stacking system, ejection device, jam detection, and heavy duty scoring system. The advanced capabilities in Colbert's Vijuk folding systems provide high-capacity insert throughput.
