Chip seal pavement maintenance scheduled for multiple Columbia streets beginning July 7
EntSun News/11096267
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - The City of Columbia Public Works street crews will be starting their chip seal pavement maintenance project on Tuesday, July 7. This project aims to extend the life of existing asphalt and improve the overall condition of the city's streets. The work is expected to take place Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting.
Chip sealing is a common pavement preservation method that involves spraying a thin layer of heated asphalt emulsion on the roadway, followed by a layer of small stone chips. These chips are then pressed into the surface using heavy rollers. This process helps to provide improved traction for vehicles and also protects the underlying pavement from water intrusion and oxidation. Once the surface has cured, crews will return to sweep up any excess stone.
To ensure smooth operations, orange 'No Parking' signs will be placed at least 24 hours in advance along streets scheduled for maintenance. Drivers are advised to avoid parking on these streets during the dates and times listed on the signs as vehicles parked in work zones during active hours may be subject to towing.
