Celebrate Colorado Day on August 1 from sunrise to sunset in Colorado Springs

~ Colorado Springs, CO - The City of Colorado Springs is gearing up to celebrate Colorado's 150th birthday with a full day of experiences on Saturday, Aug. 1. Residents and visitors are invited to join in the festivities from sunrise to sunset at various locations across the city.

The day will kick off at Pikes Peak – America's Mountain, where early risers can witness a breathtaking sunrise before participating in a Guinness World Records™ attempt for the most people dunking donuts into coffee simultaneously. This event pays homage to one of the mountain's most iconic traditions.

The celebration will continue at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, where a free Colorado Day event will be held. Attendees can enjoy live music, food trucks, family activities, and birthday cake while also exploring the museum's new exhibition, "Freedom to Thrive: The American Experiment in Colorado Springs." This exhibit focuses on the opportunities and obstacles to freedom in the community and encourages finding common ground for the common good by 2026.

The United We Rock Festival at Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site will be the perfect way to end the day. This unique community celebration will feature live music, living history demonstrations, and local flavors as a tribute to Colorado's 150th anniversary. These events are part of the statewide America 250–Colorado 150 commemoration and celebrate the landscapes, stories, and community that have shaped Colorado Springs.

Cultural Services Manager Matt Mayberry expressed his excitement for this special day, stating that "Colorado Day is an opportunity to celebrate the people, places and stories that have shaped Colorado Springs and our state." From Pikes Peak's summit to downtown and Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site, there will be plenty of opportunities for residents and visitors to connect with what makes Colorado Springs unique. Whether it's taking in panoramic mountain views or enjoying live entertainment, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

For those interested in starting their day at Pikes Peak, the gateway will open at 4:30 a.m. Timed-entry permits or shuttle reservations are required. At 11 a.m., there will be a Guinness World Records™ attempt for the most people dunking donuts into coffee simultaneously at the Summit Visitor Center. This event is free with summit admission and on a first-come, first-served basis. After sunset, the highway will reopen at 6:45 p.m., and reservations are required.

The Colorado Day celebration in downtown Colorado Springs will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include free admission and activities for all ages. Attendees can enjoy live music performances, food trucks, family-friendly activities, and even sing "Happy Birthday" while enjoying birthday cake in honor of Colorado's 150th birthday. The opening of the new exhibition at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is also not to be missed.

The United We Rock Festival at Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site will take place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., offering a community celebration with live music, living history demonstrations, food trucks, local vendors, and more.
