Cardinal Point Homeland Security Group - First Company Authorized in Pennsylvania to Provide School Security Personnel Training
EntSun News/10812133
PHILADELPHIA & HARRISBURG, Pa. & GLENSIDE, Pa. - EntSun -- MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA. –– February 28, 2020
This week, the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) announced the approval of Cardinal Point Homeland Security Group as the only Pennsylvania-based authorized provider in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the training of school security personnel. Following months of development and testing, Cardinal Point has met and surpassed the rigorous standards put in place by the PCCD.
This program is designed to teach Pennsylvania's School Security Personnel, including School Resource Officers, School Police Officers and Security Officers, how to do their jobs within the requirements of the PCCD standards. As of this date, Cardinal Point is the only private company approved to conduct this training in Pennsylvania. Prior to this authorization, SRO's in Pennsylvania could only access these training programs via the Alabama-based National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO).

"Our professional team at Cardinal has worked for over seven months to attain this approval. We are proud of this accomplishment and we look forward to conducting this training throughout the Commonwealth," remarked John Gooley, Cardinal Point's Chief Security Officer and Director of School Security. "Ultimately, these vital training programs will give school security personnel the competencies necessary to make their schools safer learning environments."
In addition to promoting these training programs directly, Cardinal Point is now listed on the PCCD website, along with information on how to register for the training. What makes this authorization most vital, is that Cardinal Point has worked diligently to meet the standards of PA Act 67, signed into law by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf on July 2, 2019. This Act makes numerous important changes to the Pennsylvania School Code as it concerns the hiring and training of school security personnel. Act 67 established a baseline of training for all school security personnel whether armed or not to ensure that School Police Officers, School Resource Officers, and School Security Guards are trained for the purpose of working in a school setting and alongside students. Additionally, the bill sets training requirements, should a school choose to arm their Security Guards. The legislation set standards for a required 40 hour course of instruction approved by the PCCD.
