California: Governor Newsom proclaims Constitution Day and Citizenship Day
EntSun News/11102810
~ Sacramento, CA - Governor Gavin Newsom has declared September 17, 2026 as "Constitution Day and Citizenship Day" in a proclamation issued today. This day marks the celebration of the United States Constitution, which has served as the foundation of our nation's government for over two centuries.
The proclamation recognizes the collaborative and compromising efforts that went into unifying America's states and their differing interests into one nation. It also acknowledges that while the Constitution guarantees fundamental rights and freedoms, they were denied to many Americans for generations.
Governor Newsom urges citizens to reflect on the sacrifices made by individuals throughout history who have fought for equality and freedom. He emphasizes the importance of civic engagement and standing united against tyranny in this critical moment where efforts to undo hard-won victories are at a peak.
"We must remain steadfast in our commitment to protecting the promise of our democracy and strive to live out the meaning of 'e pluribus unum' - out of many, one," stated Governor Newsom.

On this day, California reaffirms its dedication to upholding principles of equality, freedom, and opportunity for all in its ongoing pursuit of a more perfect union.
The Governor's proclamation was signed by Gavin Newsom himself and attested by Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D. It can be found on the California government website along with other recent news announcements from Governor Newsom.
In addition to this proclamation, Governor Newsom also announced appointments on September 17th. Holly Pearson was appointed as Chief Counsel at the California Department of Technology after serving as Assistant Chief Counsel at the same department.
Furthermore, Governor Newsom fulfilled his pledge to provide new financing options for survivors of disasters such as Eaton and Palisades fires. This program will help them access additional funding for rebuilding efforts.
In light of rising gas prices caused by Trump's actions in Iran, Governor Newsom called out his promise to send $5,000 checks to voters as a ploy to buy their votes. He urged Trump to first pay back the $108 billion that his actions have cost Americans at the pump.
As California commemorates Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, Governor Newsom's message remains clear - to uphold the values of our nation and continue striving towards a more perfect union.
