Bringing Home More Than Just The Tree: Common Bugs Found In Live Christmas Trees
EntSun News/10800805
HIGH POINT, N.C. - EntSun -- It's the happy moment we see on all our friends' social media posts these days: they found their Christmas Tree! But behind their smiling faces and the magic that perfect tree represents, could be hundred or thousands of tiny crawling creatures just waiting to be transported into their home.
The most common Christmas tree pests are aphids, spiders, and certain types of beetles. Most pests found on Christmas trees are not dangerous, but just unsightly and disturbing. You can follow these steps to reduce your chances of bringing these insects into your home along with your tree:
• Take a close look at the tree you choose before you head home with it.
• Read online reviews from others whom have purchased trees at the same location from which you plan to buy.
• Before you bring the tree inside, give it a good shake. If anything falls out, you should get a new tree.
• Let the tree hang out outside your home for a day or two before you bring it inside to decorate it. Shake it once more before you bring it in and look for anything to fall out.
• If after all these steps you still find that you've brought insects inside your home, vacuum the tree and your flooring as thoroughly and frequently as possible and dispose of the vacuum contents in an outside trash bin.

• If the problem persists or is too large to manage, consider contacting a professional pest control company to help you rid of the infestation.
Chase Hazelwood, third generation owner of Go-Forth Pest Control explains, "Every year, without fail, we receive panicked calls from homeowners begging us to come out right away because they brought aphids or spiders into their home with their live Christmas tree. It's just a hazard that can come along with that festive smell of a freshly cut Christmas Tree. Of course, we are here to help."
