~ Boston City Council Approves Grants and Donations to Support Youth Employment and Community Engagement

In a move to support the city's youth and promote community engagement, the Boston City Council has approved a series of grants and donations this week. These investments will go towards various initiatives such as youth employment opportunities, environmental workforce development, neighborhood programming, and public outreach.

One of the approved grants is a $2,520,000 YouthWorks Grant awarded by the MA Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. This grant will be used to support a Summer and School Year jobs program through the Office of Workforce Development. The program aims to provide leadership development, skills training, and career exploration for low-income at-risk youth between the ages of 14-25.

Another significant donation is the $178,000 RAY Fellowship grant awarded by the Barr Foundation. This two-year paid fellowship will be administered by the Environment Department and will provide recent college graduates from historically underrepresented communities with professional experience, mentorship, and leadership development opportunities in the environmental sector.

The Council also approved a $100,000 Sports and Entertainment Events Fund Grant from the MA Executive Office of Economic Development. This grant will support neighborhood watch parties through the Office of Tourism. The events will take place on City of Boston property and feature live match broadcasts, family-friendly programming, and opportunities for local small businesses to participate as food vendors.

In addition to these grants, there was also an in-kind donation of $428.67 from Boston Pride for the People to the Mayor's Office of LGBTQIA2S+ Advancement. This donation will go towards supporting the City's participation in the 2026 Boston Pride for People Celebration. It will cover costs for tabling at the festival, allowing the Office to promote City programs and events, distribute resources, and engage directly with residents during Pride.

Overall, these grants and donations demonstrate a commitment from both government agencies and private organizations to support workforce development, expand community programming, and strengthen resident engagement across Boston. These targeted investments will have a positive impact on the city's youth, environment, and overall sense of community.
