Beyond Pink: A Morning of Wellness, Strength, and Knowledge

ST. LOUIS - EntSun -- The Hamsa Wellness Community at the J will host its annual Beyond Pink wellness and cancer education event on Sunday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the J's Staenberg Family Complex in Creve Coeur. This free community event brings together movement, wellness, and education to help individuals learn about hereditary cancer risks, explore risk-reduction strategies, and take steps toward a healthier life.

"Beyond Pink is about going beyond awareness and creating opportunities for people to take action," said Chelsea Leon, Director of The Hamsa Wellness Community. "Whether you are navigating a cancer diagnosis, supporting someone you love or simply want to learn more about your health and hereditary cancer risks, this morning offers a welcoming place to move, learn and connect."

Participants can choose from a variety of fitness and wellness classes, including Zumba/High Low, Strength Over Cancer, Restorative and Roll, Yoga for Cancer, and T'ai Chi. Complimentary chair massages will also be available throughout the morning. Yoga for Cancer and Strength Over Cancer are Hamsa Wellness Community programs designed specifically to support individuals impacted by cancer, while the other classes offer opportunities for participants of all fitness levels to focus on movement and well-being. Snacks will also be available.

In addition to fitness and wellness activities, community organizations will be available to provide information and resources related to hereditary cancer risks, cancer rehabilitation, financial assistance, genetic testing and counseling, breast and ovarian cancer, and more. Participating organizations include Cancer Support Community, Missouri Baptist Breast HealthCare Center, Pink Ribbon Good, ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation, Roots Acupuncture and Healing, Siteman Cancer Center/WashU, and St. Louis Ovarian Cancer Awareness (SLOCA).

Beyond Pink is free and open to J members and non-members. Registration is required. Limited-edition Beyond Pink T-shirts are also available for $20 while supplies last.

The Hamsa Wellness Community is a cancer support community at the J and a community partner of the national nonprofit Sharsheret. We educate individuals about hereditary cancer risks, especially women and men of Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry, who have an increased risk of carrying hereditary cancer gene mutations. The Hamsa Wellness Community also provides support for individuals facing a cancer diagnosis, wherever they are on their cancer journey with specialized programs like Strength Over Cancer and support groups.
