Bennett Awards Brings Conceptual Vision to Life with Groundbreaking College Basketball Crown Trophy

EntSun News/11057642
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - EntSun -- Bennett Awards is proud to announce its role in crafting the highly anticipated trophy for the inaugural College Basketball Crown (CBC) tournament, which took place in Las Vegas from March 31 to April 6, 2025. As part of this exciting new postseason college basketball event, the CBC Crown trophy made waves across the sports world for its innovative design as the "first wearable award" in college basketball history.

The CBC Crown trophy was designed with input from the CBC team and its marketing partner, rEvolution, an independent sports and lifestyle agency. The design was inspired by the iconic grooves of a basketball and the CBC's own distinctive logo. Bennett Awards played a critical role in refining this complex concept to ensure the trophy could be delivered on a tight timeline.

"We worked closely with the CBC team and rEvolution to transform a brilliant design into a tangible, wearable piece of art," said Perry Tow, Project Manager at Bennett Awards. "The idea of a trophy that could be worn added an exciting dimension to the ceremony and celebration of victory, and we are thrilled to have brought that vision to life."

Crafted from high-polished gold-plated aluminum, the Crown features intricate lines that echo the signature seams of a basketball. It sits atop a custom black walnut base created by local woodworker Mac Rice, adding a timeless, classic touch to the sleek modern design. The base was engineered with a routed groove to allow the removable crown to be securely displayed but also worn by the champion players during postgame celebrations.

The inaugural CBC tournament, which took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and T-Mobile Arena, featured 16 elite teams from conferences including the Big Ten, Big 12, and BIG EAST. The championship game, which saw the University of Nebraska defeat the University of Central Florida 77-66, garnered 822,000 viewers, marking it as the most-watched non-NCAA Tournament college basketball final of the year.

Bennett Awards' involvement in creating the CBC Crown represents a fusion of innovation, artistry, and collaboration. "It's truly unique to design something players can wear," said Tow. "From the players to FOX Sports, everyone was excited about the final product." The CBC crown award was first unveiled along with the tournament bracket on FOX Sports' "Breakfast Ball" FS1 show by college basketball broadcaster, writer, and insider John Fanta.
