EntSun News/11105937
Radical Empathy Education Foundation brings free hands-on demos of TRAPPED: A VR Detective Story to a North Austin YMCA family night, the Region 4 School Safety Expo, and the Judicial Summit on Mental Health.

AUSTIN, Texas - EntSun -- Radical Empathy Education Foundation (reefcares.org), the nonprofit behind the award-winning TRAPPED: A VR Detective Story, will bring its virtual reality abuse prevention training to three Texas events this fall. Every demo is free.

Saturday, Oct. 24, Austin: North Austin YMCA Fall Spooktacular. From 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the North Austin YMCA, 1000 W Rundberg Ln, the foundation will have a community table at the Greater Austin YMCA's free Halloween celebration. Visitors 16 and older, or younger with a parent's OK, can try TRAPPED in a headset.

Thursday, Oct. 29, Houston: Region 4 School Safety Expo. Co-founder Billy Joe Cain will attend the free Expo at the Region 4 McKinney Conference Center with headsets in hand, offering demos to the educators, counselors, campus police, and school safety teams who protect Texas students. Expo registration is through Region 4 Education Service Center.

Nov. 5 and 6, San Marcos: Judicial Summit on Mental Health. At the 9th Annual Judicial Summit on Mental Health, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Marcos Hotel Conference Center, the foundation will host a resource booth where judges, attorneys, and treatment providers can try TRAPPED. Summit registration is through the Judicial Commission on Mental Health.

What visitors experience. In about 20 minutes, players step into the world of Lisa, a teenager manipulated by someone she trusts, and find the warning signs themselves. In a study by the University of North Texas Health Science Center and Texas Christian University, healthcare professionals' attitudes toward helping survivors improved 446% after a single 20-minute session.

Why it matters. "People can usually sense something is wrong long before they can name it," said Billy Joe Cain, co-founder of Radical Empathy Education Foundation. "TRAPPED gives them the words, and the practice, in about 20 minutes."
