Author Dorenda W. Madkins to Release Her Final Children's Book in Memory of Trayvon Martin
EntSun News/10897323
"Mama, Are Hoodies Bad?" is set to be published before the Author moves forward with the release of her first horror novel titled "HIM".
NEW YORK - EntSun -- In memory of 17 year old Trayvon Martin, who was fatally shot by George Zimmerman in 2012, Author Dorenda W. Madkins is set to release her final children's book, "Mama, Are Hoodies Bad?". The fictional book is based on a wealthy African American family who has to deal with the harsh realities of racial profiling. The book follows the story of young Marcus and his fear of wearing a hoodie on a rainy day. "Mama, Are Hoodies Bad?" was written to provide insight on the emotional distress placed on African American children due to being racially profiled, as well as the nightmares that their parents must face on a daily basis. With this being Madkins' final children's book, she intends to write more in the adult genre moving forward, including releasing her first horror novel titled "HIM".

When asked why she decided to base her final children's book on the memory of Trayvon Martin, Madkins replied, "I have two sons, and Trayvon's story is something that I and many other African American parents must deal with on a daily basis. I think it is important to continue to bring awareness to such topics with the hopes of a brighter future." Madkins went on to explain, "It's so stressful to live with the fear of my sons possibly being racially profiled, especially when they are out taking a walk. Racial profiling isn't only a problem for African Americans, but for other minorities as well. It's a war that must be fought until racial profiling is no longer a concern."
"Mama, Are Hoodies Bad?" is expected to be released in the Fall.
