Announcing Custom CO2 System for Georgia Power's Arc in a Box Safety Training

Cold Spark LED lights, PCB boards, circuitry and a relay system were used toward crafting the custom CO2 design to resemble a faulty power meter installation.

Additionally, a single-nozzle CO2 jet with a safe spark generator and an LED light strip that is DMX controlled was specifically manufactured for this project.

According to Michael Willett, Founder of Atlanta Special FX, "we designed and manufactured the custom CO2 system to provide a safe alternative for employees to participate in live training exercises versus practicing in a very dangerous electrical environment."

Now, employees of Georgia Power can prepare for situations that involve an arc in a box without being exposed to life-threatening conditions.

When using the custom PCB board and circuitry that Atlanta Special FX designed and manufactured, Georgia Power can control the timing and the lighting intensity for a variety of settings.

To simulate the arc in a box, a Showven Sparkular machine is used to warm up TI composite granules that provide a bright orange glow. This sequence leads to an immediate blast of cryogenic smoke and flickering LED lights.
