£1m Cambridge home on the birthplace of Lister racing cars comes to market
EntSun News/11100891
Five-bedroom Abbey Road property occupies part of the historic engineering site linked to Brian Lister, Sir Stirling Moss and Archie Scott Brown.
CAMBRIDGE, U.K. - EntSun -- A five-bedroom Cambridge home standing on part of the Abbey Road engineering site where Brian Lister developed some of Britain's most celebrated sports-racing cars has come onto the market.
No. 28 Abbey Road is being offered through Yopa at offers in the region of £1 million. The detached property extends to approximately 1,933 sq ft including its garage and is offered with no onward chain. It has off-road parking, a private east-facing rear garden and a position close to the River Cam.
George Lister and Sons occupied the historic 28–30 Abbey Road site, where Brian Lister began constructing competition cars in the 1950s. Lister's lightweight racers became famous internationally and were driven by leading names including Sir Stirling Moss and Archie Scott Brown.
Scott Brown overcame significant physical disabilities to compete at the highest level and became closely associated with Brian Lister and the Cambridge-built cars. He died in 1958 from injuries sustained after a crash at Spa-Francorchamps.

His story later acquired a cinematic footnote. In July 2007, Motor Sport reported that California-based Yellow Sky Productions had optioned Robert Edwards's biography, Archie and the Listers, as the basis of a feature film. The report said screenplay discussions were under way with Oscar-winning Gosford Park writer Julian Fellowes.
Today, No. 28 gives a future owner an unusually tangible connection with the Lister story. Its garage offers the appealing possibility of keeping a classic Lister, or one of the marque's modern continuation cars, at the Cambridge address where the story began.
"For many Lister enthusiasts, this is hallowed ground," said one enthusiastic visitor.
