World Premiere Of Documentary "Angèle Virtuoso" Official Selection At Montréal's International Art Film Festival (FIFA)
EntSun News/10769463
ID VISION FILMS II and ANALEKTA are proud to announce the presentation of "Angèle Virtuoso" for its world première as the closing film of Montréal's FIFA International Art Film Festival.
MONTREAL, Quebec - March 20, 2019 - EntSun -- ANGELE, VIRTUOSO tells the story of Canada's pre-eminent violin virtuoso, Angèle Dubeau, exploring her expansive international career in classical music of over 40 years. The film explores the 4 seasons as a visual metaphor for life events and inspirational shifts of her unusual and meteoric ascension from rural Québec to Julliard, and ultimately the world stage.
Visually expansive nature and urban landscapes frame an intimate portrait of Angèle, not only as a highly accomplished violin virtuoso, but also as a conductor of her all-woman chamber orchestra. The documentary showcases collaborators, family as well as industry experts who provide a framework to understand her unique musical gifts and contribution to the music industry in Canada and abroad.
The film was produced with the financial participation of ICI-ARTV, ICI-RADIO-CANADA TÉLÉ, Canada Media Fund, Rogers Documentary Fund, Québec Film Tax Credits, Canada Tax Credits. The French version, "Angèle en quatre temps", will air on ICI-ARTV and ICI-RADIO-CANADA TÉLÉ at a date yet to be announced.
The world première of the film will be presented during Montréal's FIFA art film festival on March 30,2019.

ABOUT THE FILM
Isabelle Depelteau, the writer/director, has set out to break with the traditional linear storytelling structure of biographic documentaries, tracing deep parallels between life events and the four seasons in nature with the present, set to the fall. "By choosing to set the film's anchor 'time present', I was able to contextualize her creative process, and easily pivot to her personal life, both on and off stage, against four decades of accomplishments not only as a violin virtuoso but ensemble conductor, mother, life partner and business woman. I feel much of her backstory has not yet been told and I find it really helps shape our view of the Artist," says Mrs. Depelteau.
"I asked myself when we set out to tell this story, just how should one go about filming a virtuoso with such an illustrious 40 year-plus career?" says Dan Shannon, the film's director of photography and producer. "We decided to create a canvas of the landscapes across Québec where she started, but also other major places significant in her career. After more than 3 years of filming, we are thrilled to present the film at Montréal's FIFA International Art Film Festival."

FILM EXCERPTS
ANGÈLE DUBEAU, violinist: "So often in my career, after a show, I have met older individuals who would come to me saying 'Wow, it was my first classical concert and I really loved it! What was I doing all these years?' This just makes me think: 'What if that person had been properly introduced to the classical music experience younger? They would have learned to shape their own musical landscape. This is why I say music is a gift for life.'"
SHAWN PHILLIPS, Singer, Songwriter: "She's a musician's musician...I mean some people have the ability to make you feel everything when they play, and she (Angèle) has the ability to do that."
ANDRÉ MÉNARD, Co-Founder, Montréal International Jazz Festival: "In terms of positioning Québec on the international music scene, Angèle Dubeau has made a major contribution."
MICHEL RIVARD, Singer, Songwriter: "Angèle is a great artist who is proud of what she's has achieved...yet she never allows herself to use that pride, that virtuosity to belittle those around her...it's part of who she is."
MARIE DUBEAU LABBÉ, Angèle Dubeau's daughter: "My mother is passionate about her work and music and also about her family, friends and life experiences. She's a role model that I aspire to."
