Women United Flagler Funds Distribution Recipients Announced

PALM COAST, Fla. - EntSun -- Women United Flagler is pleased to announce the organization recently allocated $5,000 in mini-grants to nine Flagler County non-profit organizations, as well as $10,000 in food, scholarships, Dolly Parton Imagination Library support, and United Way's general fund allocation.
"The grant applications we receive are reviewed by our funds allocation committee, then voted on, approved and allocated by board members," said Linda Mahran, President of Women United Flagler. Agencies that support women and children in need in Flagler County and are a 501©3 are eligible. The next application process opens at the end of August 2021 and can be found on https://www.unitedwayvfc.org/women.
Allocans were made to; AdventHealth Palm Coast Foundation's Pink on Parade, Grace Community Food Pantry's 12th Annual Feed Flagler 2020, Family Life Center's Emergency Services Family Life Center, Christmas Come True's Emergency Services, Teens-In-Flight, WARM/SMA Healthcare's WARM at VCS, Social Services of the Jewish Federation's Jerry Doliner Food Bank - Food Brings Hope, Abundant Life Ministries Hope House Inc.'s A Christmas to Remember.

In addition to these grants, Women United donated two $1,000 high school scholarships to FPC and Matanzas and a $3000 community champion donation to Dolly Parton Imagination Library providing books to children from birth to five years old. Also, donated annually is a $500 gift designated by the Woman of the Year. This year's designee was Teens In Flight and was donated by Women of the Year Lynn McCormick. Overall, the group has allocated $2,437 to the general community fund of United Way Volusia Flagler Counties in 2020. With the group's Chicks with Cans 2019 initiative, $2,831 worth of food was purchased from Second Harvest Food Bank. All of these initiatives combined total $15,768 in distribution in 2020 from Women United Flagler. Since the group's inception in 2009, they have donated $270,006 to organizations that benefit women and children in Flagler County.
The 2020 Flagler Women United board of directors include: President: Linda Mahran, Vice President: Diane Wasney, Secretary: Lori Gold, Treasurer: Ashley Katz, Community Engagement Chair: Maureen Walsh, Funds Allocation Chair: Joanne Tavzel, Marketing & PR Chair: Cindy Dalecki, Social Committee Chair: Haylie Allegra. The group's mission is to create positive, measurable, long-term change in the lives of women and children by focusing on root causes and pooling resources to increase impact. It is estimated the group has collected approximately 60,000 lbs. (30 tons) of food since it's inception. The funds raised through Women United Flagler go to help women and children above and beyond the normal activities of the United Way.
