TOMS RIVER, N.J. - EntSun -- The Garden State Philharmonic (GSP) and Maestro Diane Wittry are set to continue their 2021-22 live concert series on Sunday, October 31 with their Women in Music string concert. This performance is part of the Garden State Philharmonic's Symphonic Encounters series for the organization's 65th season.
The Women in Music concert will feature a unique program of notable pieces composed by pioneering women in symphonic music, and will be performed by a string quartet comprised of talented female musicians. Two composers of note include Fanny Mendelssohn and Florence Price. Fanny Mendelssohn's String Quartet in Eb Major (1834) is one of the featured pieces, and is famous for being one of the first string quartets composed by a woman.
