Texas: Governor Abbott Mobilizes State Emergency Response Resources Ahead Of Storm, Flood Threats

EntSun News/11093739
~ In preparation for severe weather expected to hit multiple regions of Texas in the coming days, Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate state emergency response resources.

According to the National Weather Service, a storm system is approaching that will bring multiple rounds of thunderstorms and flash flooding to areas of West, Northwest, Central, and East Texas. The primary threat is flash flooding, but damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes are also a concern.

Governor Abbott stated, "Texas is prepared to face the anticipated severe weather moving across each region of our state." He has directed TDEM to activate all necessary state emergency response resources and deploy them to potentially impacted communities.

At the governor's direction, several state agencies have made their resources available to support local severe weather response operations. These include the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (Texas A&M Task Force 1 and Texas Task Force 2), which will provide Swiftwater Rescue Boat Squads and Urban Search and Rescue Teams for flood rescues.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management will also be deploying their State Incident Management Team, All Hazards Group responders, Incident Support Task Force, Disaster Recovery Task Force, and regional personnel across the state. The Texas Department of Transportation will be monitoring road conditions while the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will have Game Wardens, rescue boat teams, and helicopters with hoist capability on standby for water rescues.

The Texas Department of Public Safety will also be providing support with their Highway Patrol Troopers, helicopters with hoist capability, and Tactical Marine Unit. The Texas Department of State Health Services' Emergency Medical Task Force will have Severe Weather Support Packages with medics, ambulances, and all-terrain vehicles ready for deployment.

Other agencies such as the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service (Disaster Assessment and Recovery Agents), Public Utility Commission of Texas (power outage monitoring), Railroad Commission of Texas (natural gas supply monitoring), and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (air, water, and wastewater monitoring) will also be assisting in the state's emergency response efforts.
