Texas: Governor Abbott Delivers Remarks At Lilly Groundbreaking In Houston

~ Houston, Texas - Governor Greg Abbott delivered a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for Eli Lilly and Company's new active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing site at Generation Park in Harris County. This project, which is the largest investment in API manufacturing in Texas to date, is expected to create over 600 high-paying jobs.

In his remarks, Governor Abbott expressed his excitement about the project and its potential impact on the state's economy. "Today's announcement adds to Texas' record-breaking job growth and further strengthens our position as the best state in the country for business," he stated. This project has been years in the making, with Governor Abbott first announcing Lilly's plan to build a 1 million-square-foot facility for domestic production of next-generation small molecule synthetic medicines back in September 2025. The company has committed over $6.5 billion towards this project and has received a $5.5 million grant from the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF). Additionally, it has been approved under the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation (JETI) program.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by various local leaders and community partners including Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Lilly Chair and CEO Dave Ricks, Lilly Houston Site Head Diane Tennenhouse, and San Jacinto College Chancellor Dr. Brenda Hellyer.
