Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Four To Correctional Managed Health Care Committee

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the appointment of four individuals to the Correctional Managed Health Care Committee, with two new members and two reappointments. The committee is responsible for coordinating statewide policies for healthcare within the criminal justice system.
One of the reappointed members is Robert "Bobby" Greenberg, M.D., who will also continue to serve as chair of the committee. Dr. Greenberg is currently the vice president and chief medical officer of Emergency Services at Baylor Scott & White Health Central Texas. He brings a wealth of experience to the committee, having previously served as Chair for the Governor's EMS and Trauma Advisory Council (GETAC) and as a board member and volunteer physician at Temple Community Clinic.
Dr. Greenberg received his Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Northeast Louisiana University and his Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University Medical Center-Shreveport. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Cincinnati.

Joining Dr. Greenberg on the committee is Brandon Cantazaro, M.D., who has been appointed by Governor Abbott. Dr. Cantazaro currently serves as Chief Medical Officer at The University of Texas Health Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) and Division Chief of Internal Medicine at UTRGV School of Medicine. He is an active member of various medical societies, including the Hidalgo-Starr County Medical Society and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Cantazaro received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Arizona and his Doctor of Medicine from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara.
Another new member appointed by Governor Abbott is Robert Suter, D.O., who brings a unique perspective to the committee as a former joint task force surgeon and deputy commanding general for the United States Army Medical Department. Dr. Suter was honorably discharged in 2023 after 45 years of service.
In addition to his military experience, Dr. Suter has held various leadership positions in the medical field, including past president of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association and the American and Texas Colleges of Emergency Physicians. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Political Science from Washington University, his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.

The final appointment made by Governor Abbott is Divyansu Patel, M.D., who currently serves as director of medical engagement for Bristol Myers Squibb. Dr. Patel has a diverse background in healthcare, having previously worked as a principal investigator at Biobehavioral Research of Austin and as a psychiatrist at Specialty Clinic of Austin.
Dr. Patel is a member of several medical associations, including the Texas Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Decision Information Science from the University of Florida and his Doctor of Medicine from Saba University School of Medicine.
All four members have been appointed for terms set to expire on February 1, 2029, demonstrating Governor Abbott's confidence in their abilities to serve on this important committee. Their expertise will be crucial in developing policies that ensure quality healthcare for those within the criminal justice system.
