Tech for care: New app makes sure someone knows if you're not 'all good'

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. - EntSun -- When 32-year-old marketing professional Becky Watson realised that if something happened to her at home, nobody might notice for days, she decided to take action. The result is The All Good App, a simple personal safety tool that alerts loved ones if a user misses their check-in.

"I live alone and work from home," Becky explains. "If something happened to me, it could be days before anyone realised, and my dog would be left without care. I built this app to give people reassurance that if anything goes wrong, someone will know."

From personal concern to national innovation

For many, building an app requires assembling a development team, seeking external funding, or having a background in tech. Becky refused to accept that barrier. Motivated by  an acute awareness of how vulnerable people living alone can be, she decided to build the solution herself.

Over many nights and weekends, using accessible AI tools, and no-code platforms, the app came to life.

"I'm not a developer," she says, "but technology is now so accessible that if you've got an idea, you can bring it to life."

Addressing a growing safety need

The All Good App addresses a real and growing social issue: millions of people live alone. When an accident happens: a fall, fainting spell, medical incident, if nobody is aware, help can be delayed for hours or even days.

• 8.4 million people live alone in the UK — around 30% of all households (Office for National Statistics, 2023).
  
  
• 6,000 people die each year from accidents in the home, with falls the most common cause (RoSPA).
  
  
• Homes are the most frequent location for non-road traffic injuries, accounting for 38.1% of all incidents (University of Birmingham).
  
  

At the same time, people are meeting more strangers through dating apps, social media, and gig-based work. While most encounters are positive, it's important that people share their whereabouts or check in with someone they trust. The All Good App makes that process simple and automatic.

Made in the Midlands, built for everyone

Although available globally, The All Good App was born in Birmingham. Becky plans to start by engaging with local communities, wellbeing groups, and charities before scaling nationally.

"I built this app because I needed it myself," Becky adds. "But the more people I spoke to, the more I realised how many others feel the same way. Whether you live alone, travel solo, or just want peace of mind, The All Good App is there to make sure you're okay."'
