~ In a unanimous decision, the Tacoma City Council has adopted Resolution 41972, expressing their opposition to two initiatives on the upcoming November 3, 2026 General Election Ballot. The first initiative, IL26-001, focuses on parental rights in public schools and seeks to repeal amendments made to a statute regarding these rights. This initiative would revert the law back to its original form as passed by Initiative No. 2081 in 2024 by the Washington state Legislature.

The second initiative, IL26-638, aims to change the law regarding participation in athletics in K-12 schools. If passed, this initiative would require girls to undergo medical sex certification as part of their sports physicals and would prohibit parents from using birth certificates as proof of gender.
