Spokane Police Department Makes Arrest in a Decades Old Homicide

~ Spokane police say a 74-year-old man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the 1986 killing of Mary Ann Turner.
Officers responding to a report of a person down near South Ivory Street and East Pacific Avenue at about 7:38 a.m. on Nov. 4, 1986, found Turner, 32, dead in a nearby alley. Investigators determined she had been murdered, according to police.

After nearly four decades of investigation, detectives developed probable cause to charge David Tibbett, police said. The case relied on DNA evidence and witness statements collected early in the investigation, with assistance from the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab, Othram and the Spokane County Prosecutor's Office.
On Oct. 21, 2026, detectives served a search warrant at Tibbett's home, took him into custody and booked him into the Spokane County Jail, police said. The investigation remains ongoing.
