Spokane: Female Arrested After Homeowners Caught Her on Property of Burned Home

~ A female suspect has been arrested for allegedly stealing items from a property in the Indian Trail neighborhood that had been lost in the Old Trails Fire. According to Officer T. Leming, PIO, on August 19th, 2026 at approximately 2:45 p.m., a homeowner called the police to report a female on their property who appeared to be stealing items.
The homeowner provided a description of the suspect and informed officers that she had left her vehicle at the location before fleeing on foot. Responding officers were able to quickly locate the suspect based on the description given by the homeowner. The suspect was identified as Taylor J. Edwards (33), who had recently been contacted in the vehicle she left at the scene.
Meanwhile, other officers went to a nearby home on N Sutherlin St after learning that a neighbor had noticed Edwards' vehicle parked there and reached out to the homeowners. Upon arrival, they discovered burned items that appeared to belong to them next to Edwards' vehicle and witnessed her on their property. The homeowners immediately called the police and Edwards fled on foot.

The homeowners positively identified Edwards as the suspect they had seen on their property, leading officers to develop probable cause for charging her with Criminal Trespassing 2nd Degree. She was subsequently transported and booked into Spokane County Jail.
During their investigation, officers were informed by the homeowners that they believed some of their belongings may be inside Edward's vehicle. As a result, her vehicle was seized pending a search warrant. Further charges may be brought against Edwards once the search warrant is served.
In related photos provided by authorities, damage can be seen on the property where Edwards was allegedly trespassing and stealing items. The incident serves as a reminder for residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
