Spokane: Community Resources Available to Those Impacted by Fires

~ As wildfires continue to ravage the Spokane region, community members are being urged to take advantage of the resources and assistance available to those impacted by the evacuations, response, and recovery efforts. Erin Hut, the Communications Director for Spokane City, has announced that various services are being offered to support those affected by the wildfires.

For those in need of evacuation services, the Red Cross is providing assistance at the Spokane Convention Center located at 334 W Spokane Falls Blvd. Free parking is available in the garage and pets are welcome. The Red Cross is available 24 hours a day to provide aid.

In addition, HEART Animal Evacuation is offering their services at the Spokane County Fairgrounds on 404 N. Havana St. Livestock and larger animals can be accommodated here, with RV space and trailer parking also available. This service is also available 24 hours a day.

For individuals in need of self-care support, the YMCA of the Inland Northwest has opened their doors at their North, South, Valley, and Central Spokane locations for showers and other temporary respite needs. Personal identification will be required for access and operating hours are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Spokane County Veterans Services has also been impacted by the wildfires as they have had to evacuate from their location at Mann Grand-Staff VA Medical Center. However, veterans can still access medical services by calling 509-477-3690 or emailing VETSTUDY@spokanecounty.org.

For those experiencing homelessness due to the wildfires, ShelterMeSpokane.com is offering assistance through their Navigation Center located at 527 S. Cannon St., which is open 24 hours a day.

In addition, Spokane Public Schools will be providing free emergency drop-in camps for children aged four and older whose families have been impacted by fires in Nine Mile Falls, Mead, and Spokane. This service is intended to give parents and caregivers a safe place for their children while they take care of other immediate needs. Certificated SPS staff will supervise activities and lunch will be provided through the federal free summer meals program. For more information, contact SPS at spokaneschools.org/contact. The camp will be held on Monday, August 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Shadle Park High School located at 4327 N. Ash St.
