Spokane: City Closures Planned for Juneteenth
EntSun News/11094955
~ Spokane, WA - As the nation prepares to celebrate Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans, Spokane City Hall will be closed on Friday, June 19. This decision was announced by Erin Hut, Communications Director for the city.
In addition to City Hall, other city services will also be affected by the holiday. The Spokane Municipal Court and Community Justice Services, all branches of the Spokane Public Library, and the Development Services Center will also be closed in observance of Juneteenth.
However, there are some exceptions to this closure. On-street parking meters and kiosks will not require payments on Juneteenth. However, it is important to note that all parking rules, including time limits, still apply even when parking is free on holidays.
While some services will be closed for the holiday, others will continue to operate on their normal schedules. This includes garbage and recycling services as well as food and yard waste services. The Waste-to-Energy facility and Spokane County's transfer stations will also remain open.
