Spearmint Publishes Full Design of Its Mining Pool Before Building It, Including Legal Drafts

EntSun News/11102305
The SHA-256 proof-of-work project puts its pool architecture, payout policy, terminology rules and a public list of features it will never add without legal review online, with Pennsylvania's 2025 law flagged first.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - EntSun -- Spearmint (SPMTC), a SHA-256 proof-of-work cryptocurrency forked from Bitcoin Core v29.0, has published the complete design of its public mining service before writing any of the pool software. The design, the data model, six draft legal documents and a developer "regulatory change control" list are all on spearmintcoin.com as of 13 September 2026.

The service, Spearmint Mining, is designed so that its functionality rather than its disclaimers keeps it a mining pool. A miner's payout address is the login; there are no accounts, no passwords and no feature to redirect rewards to a different address. There is no hosted wallet, no deposit address, no withdrawal button and no way to move value between miners. Rewards are apportioned by PPLNS and paid automatically each day to the address the shares were mined under. The proposed pool fee is one percent of block rewards, characterised as compensation for operating mining infrastructure.

"We wrote the compliance matrix and the change-control list before the first line of pool code because those decisions are far cheaper to make now than to unwind later," said Glenn Lyvers, who directs the project at Instant Access. "Every feature that would turn a mining pool into a wallet, an exchange or a money transmitter is on a public list that no developer may touch without a new legal review."

The published material measures the design against FinCEN's 2019 guidance on mining pools, the OFAC sanctions compliance guidance for the virtual-currency industry, and Pennsylvania's Money Transmission and Virtual Currency Transmission Business Licensing Law, Act 7 of 2025, which took effect on 26 August 2025 and contains no exemption for mining pools. The project states plainly that the pool will not open until Pennsylvania counsel has reviewed it; the open questions are listed on the site.

Spearmint remains pre-launch. There is no mainnet, no token sale and no exchange listing. The public launch window is under review, with 2027 as the working assumption and no date set. Eight long-form articles accompany the release, covering FinCEN's mining-pool rule, the Pennsylvania statute, PPLNS versus PPS payout methods, forking Bitcoin Core, difficulty algorithms and solo mining with ckpool.
