Roll N Peace Critical Mass Bike Tour: Reclaiming the Greater Englewood Community

CHICAGO - EntSun -- Think Outside Da Block in conjunction with the Englewood Quality of Life Plan Public Safety Task Force with the support of The Department of Justice's Community Based Crime Reduction initiative (T.I.M.E - 21:36) announced its third installment of the Roll N Peace critical mass bike tour at the Englewood Square located at 63rd and Halsted on June 14, 2019 at 6:00PM. Using cycling as the plan of action to address the mental health and wellness of the Englewood community the Roll N Peace critical mass bike tour will increase physical fitness and endurance, promote weight loss, decrease depression and anxiety and improve self-esteem interest in entrepreneurship.

Roll N Peace will serve as a launch for the T.I.M.E. 21:36 Early Action Project. T.I.M.E. is an acronym for This Is My Englewood and 21:36 represents the 60621 and 6036 zip codes which covers the Greater Englewood community. TIME 21:36 brings a strategic approach to crime reduction that leverages the knowledge and expertise of community stakeholders with the goal of making neighborhoods safer. The Roll N Peace critical mass bike tour is what you get when a community forum with a group of concerned Englewood residents is held to discuss innovative solutions to reduce violence in the Englewood community. Think Outside Da Block has committed to change the narrative with the Roll N Peace critical mass bike tour in the Englewood community to promote peace and provide a healing space for community residents. Think Outside Da Block has partnered with the Englewood Quality of Life Plan Public Safety Task Force, Teamwork Englewood, Divvy, 007th District Chicago Police Department, Chicago Park District, Oak Street Health, Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children, City of Chicago's Bicycling Ambassadors, Chicago Department of Transportation, Working Bikes, TOMS, The McCormick Foundation, Safe and Peaceful Communities, TIME - 21:36 and a host of other community organizations throughout the Englewood community in order to bring the Roll N Peace critical mass bike tour to life.

The event starts with partner organization Oak Street Health where community organizations throughout Chicagoland provide community residents with education-based activities including, but not limited to, traffic mapping projects that show how to stay safe while traveling, bike repair and maintenance training to promote entrepreneurship in the field of cycle repair and maintenance, free helmets will be distributed and fittings for youth, food demonstrations that provide healthy alternatives to everyday eating habits, mental health and wellness checks provided and various other resources to ensure the health and wellness of community residents. These activities are followed by a bike giveaway for youth with new and refurbished bikes that have been donated by individuals and organizations. Free bike rentals are also available through partnership with Divvy to provide options for adults without proper cycling available to them. At 8:00PM after safety checks are conducted we will proceed on an 8 mile bike tour through the historic Englewood community. This bike tour explores the Englewood community through a lens of pride and resilience as we visit historic locations including the Chicago Fire Department Engine Company 84 building and Ogden Park. The tour welcomes back participants with food, fun and music in a healing space.
