Quantum Research Cloud Nearly Triples a Rare-Disease Trial's Eligible Patient Pool
EntSun News/11100722
Working from national, patient-level real-world data, Quantum showed a sponsor exactly what each eligibility criterion cost in patients, then turned the result into a ranked, reachable site list, on one evidence base.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - EntSun -- Quantum Research Cloud, a real-world-data company for clinical-trial design and site selection, today detailed how it helped a sponsor nearly triple the eligible patient pool for a rare-disease trial and then identify the sites able to enroll them.
When the sponsor set out to design the trial, its clinical experts could agree on the science but not on the number the program depended on: how many patients would actually qualify under the draft criteria. An expert sees their own clinic; no one sees the whole country.
Quantum Research Cloud translated the draft protocol into patient-level logic over national claims data and measured, criterion by criterion, exactly what each rule cost in eligible patients, while confirming the population stayed aligned with the trial's target phenotype and endpoints. The final protocol qualified nearly three times as many patients as the original draft, with the same scientific intent, and with every criterion's cost understood before a single site was activated.

Quantum then turned that eligibility model into a site list using its Site Intelligence Engine. Because its patient-eligibility data and its site-performance data share one database, it paired every candidate investigator with both a measured enrollment track record and the exact number of protocol-qualified patients that investigator and their institution actually see. The result was a ranked list of sites that can reach the patients, surfacing strong sites the conventional academic shortlists miss and excluding prestigious centers with no reachable patients.
The approach contrasts with conventional feasibility, which often relies on open-source data or on inferences drawn from a limited set of partner health systems. In a rare disease with only a few hundred qualifying patients nationwide, Quantum notes, a partial view is not a smaller answer but the wrong one.
