Planned PEThood of Georgia Delivers Lifesaving Care to Nearly 5,000 Animals in Q1 2026
EntSun News/11090364
Planned PEThood of Georgia kicked off 2026 with significant lifesaving impact, serving nearly 5,000 animals and nearly doubling its spay and neuter surgery capacity during the first quarter alone.
DULUTH, Ga. - EntSun -- Planned PEThood of Georgia kicked off 2026 with significant lifesaving impact, serving nearly 5,000 animals and nearly doubling its spay and neuter surgery capacity during the first quarter alone. The organization was also honored with a 2025 Best of Gwinnett Award in the Pets and Animal Services category.
Planned PEThood is a 501(c)(3) animal welfare and veterinary nonprofit based in Duluth, Georgia. For 16 years, the organization has been delivering mission-driven services that support pets and the communities they live in across Metro Atlanta and Northeast Georgia.
During the first quarter, Planned PEThood completed 2,269* affordable spay and neuter surgeries, nearly doubling its Q1 2025 total of 1,244 surgeries. These procedures supported pets, community cats through Trap‑Neuter‑Vaccinate‑Return (TNVR), and shelter animals- directly addressing the cycle of unintended litters that drive shelter intake.

This dramatic increase was fueled by expanded capacity, including a team of four full‑time veterinarians and the February launch of Planned PEThood's new FIDO mobile spay and neuter service, which brings care directly to underserved communities with limited access to veterinary services.
In addition to high‑volume surgeries, Planned PEThood provided 3,201 affordable wellness appointments at its Duluth clinic and reached an additional 463 pets through two free, off‑site vaccine clinics in Jackson and White counties. These services expanded preventive care for families facing financial and transportation barriers- helping pets stay healthy and in their homes.
"Our first‑quarter results show what's possible when community investment, thoughtful planning, and compassionate veterinary care come together," said CJ Bentley, CEO of Planned PEThood of Georgia. "By expanding spay and neuter capacity, bringing services directly into underserved areas, and prioritizing access to care, we are preventing suffering before it starts. This work doesn't just save individual animals- it strengthens families, reduces pressure on shelters, and creates a more humane community for everyone."
