Nottingham Abstract Painter Sells 40 Original Works in Debut Year

NOTTINGHAM, U.K. - EntSun -- Andy Taylor, founder of Art Haus, marks his first year as a full-time artist with 40 canvas sales, a sell-out solo exhibition, and a growing collector base across the UK

Nottingham abstract painter Andy Taylor has sold 40 original paintings in his first year as a full-time artist, following a 35-year career in senior marketing roles.

Taylor paints from his Nottingham studio, working in acrylic using the impasto technique and palette knife - building layered, textured works inspired by the British coastline, Derbyshire moorland, and dramatic skies.

His debut solo exhibition, "Into the Light" - a collection of 18 original paintings at Broadway Gallery in Nottingham's Hockley quarter in June 2026 - sold six works and generated multiple commission enquiries. Work by Taylor is currently on loan to the Nottingham Trent University collection and has been shown at Limited 2 Art Gallery in Retford.

"I had an inkling this was what I wanted to do, but I hadn't painted in years," said Taylor. "Taking the leap was terrifying. A year later I've sold 40 paintings, had a solo show, and I'm genuinely living my best life."

Taylor's work - characterised by its movement between darkness and light, chaos and calm - is available as original paintings and museum-quality fine art prints through his studio website. Studio viewings are available by appointment in Nottingham.
