New plusOne Research Finds the Orgasm Gap Is a 30-Point Chasm — and Confirms It Isn't Biology
EntSun News/11090722
Nationally representative study of 2,000 adults, combined with peer-reviewed academic research, points to culture, education, and communication — not physiology — as the drivers of one of the most persistent inequalities in modern intimate life
NEWTON, Mass. - EntSun -- plusOne, the leading intimate wellness brand, today released The Orgasm Gap, the second installment of its Intimate Wellness Series. The report finds that 95% of heterosexual men usually or always orgasm during partnered sex, compared to just 65% of heterosexual women — a 30-percentage-point disparity that has remained remarkably consistent across studies, decades, and cultures.
The new research, however, makes a clear case that the gap is not a function of female biology. Drawing on a 2,000-person nationally representative survey, peer-reviewed studies, and expert testimony from the plusOne Wellness Collective — a panel of eight medical doctors and sexuality researchers — the report identifies the actual drivers of the gap and the evidence-based behaviors that close it.
"The orgasm gap is one of the most measurable inequalities in modern intimate life — and one of the most misunderstood," said [Spokesperson Name, Title], plusOne. "Our research confirms what sexual medicine has long suggested: this gap is a product of culture, education, and communication, not physiology. And every one of those is something we can change."

The report concludes with an evidence-based framework for closing the gap: educate (start with anatomy), communicate (treat partner pleasure as a shared goal), explore (treat self-knowledge as a health practice), and normalize (move female pleasure from bonus to baseline in healthcare, education, and culture).
About the research
The Orgasm Gap synthesizes findings from a 2,000-person online survey of 1,892 nationally representative adults and 102 plusOne customers, conducted by independent research firm Weinman Schnee Morais Inc. and independent testing firm Prestige Testing. The research was supplemented by a 619-person comparative baseline, a 27-person qualitative study, and a 100-customer perception study. Data was analyzed across more than 20 demographic and psychographic cuts. External academic sources include peer-reviewed studies published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, Archives of Sexual Behavior, and PMC.

Key findings from the report
- The orientation clue. Lesbian women orgasm at a rate of 86% — nearly identical to the 95% rate among heterosexual men, and dramatically higher than the 65% rate among heterosexual women. The disparity exists specifically in heterosexual encounters, not across female sexual experience generally.
- The anatomy problem. Approximately 80% of women do not orgasm from vaginal penetration alone. The clitoris is the primary anatomical source of female orgasm — yet only 16% of women received any education on masturbation in school, compared to 34% of men.
- The context effect. In casual encounters, only 32% of women orgasm, compared to 82% of men. In committed relationships, that figure rises to 70% for women — pointing to trust, intimacy, and communication as the most powerful levers for closing the gap.
- The self-knowledge multiplier. At least 92% of women orgasm when they masturbate, demonstrating that the capacity for orgasm is not the issue. Female vibrator users are 1.8× more likely to report partnered sex as pleasurable, and 35% more likely to have had partnered sex in the past 12 months, compared to non-users.
- Whole-body wellness benefits. Among vibrator-experienced women, 90% report that vibrators help them relax, 88% report improved mood, and 71% report decreased anxiety. After four weeks of consistent use, 97% of participants reported achieving orgasm and over 90% reported feeling more relaxed and self-appreciative.
