" Hutchinson new work, Getting Ready for the Start 0f….Classical Concert Musings is a fast-paced, highly readable basic primer for those interested in classical music or who want to develop an interest in it.
It's a layperson's guide to standard musical terms, instruments, selected composers, influential works, and the styles, forms, and structures common to classical music. Getting Ready for the Start 0f….Classical Concert Musings then is exactly what the title suggests, says Hutchinson, It's his musings on a particular work, a particular composer, and a particular performance. It can more accurately be called a series of vignettes of one person's thoughts about a particular work.
There are thirty-two mini-reviews. The focus is on one or more of the major works of the giants from Bach to Shostakovich. That also includes two who have in recent years gained wider recognition as classical music masters. One is Duke Ellington. The other is Florence Price.
The reviews convey my half century plus passion, love, and appreciation of the works of the old masters. Getting Ready for the Start 0f…. Classical Concert Musings is his capsulized take on an evening of what has always been one of delightful listening at the concert hall.
