Naperville: Structure Fire 30W00 Block Capistrano Court

NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ On Saturday, May 23, at 6:36 p.m., the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a fire alarm activation on the alarm board. The ECC immediately dispatched a single unit to investigate the alarm activation on the 30W00 block of Capistrano Court.

Upon arrival, the responding suppression unit was met by residents who reported a fire on the third floor of the building. The ECC upgraded the alarm to a general assignment, sending three engines, two ladder trucks, two medic units, one heavy rescue and two battalion commanders to the scene. Fire suppression companies conducted a thorough survey of the structure and established command.

After entering the building, firefighters discovered an active fire in one of the residence's kitchens. All occupants were safely evacuated from the structure. Handlines were deployed and crews quickly extinguished the fire in the unit. They then proceeded to overhaul the area and put out any remaining embers to ensure that there was no further danger.

The Naperville Fire Department received assistance from DuPage County Sheriff's Police Department at the scene. The estimated damage from the fire is $125,000 and it has been determined to be accidental. The affected unit has been deemed uninhabitable but fortunately, no other units were impacted by the fire. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters during this incident.

The swift response and efficient actions of both emergency services prevented any major damage or injuries from occurring. The Naperville Fire Department reminds all residents to regularly check their smoke alarms and have an evacuation plan in case of emergencies like this one.
