MrDogtooth Showcases Hand-Illustrated Art at the British Grand Prix

YORK, U.K. - EntSun -- Contemporary artist Rick Jesse, known artistically as MrDogtooth, unveiled his hand-illustrated artwork at this year's British Grand Prix. Displayed in the exclusive Helipad area at Silverstone, the piece was seen by high-profile guests, marking a significant moment in Jesse's transition from design and digital printing to creating original art on three-dimensional objects.

Jesse, who continues to run his design and print company Dogtooth, has steadily built a reputation for detailed, monochrome illustrations on helmets, vehicles, furniture, and installations. The Silverstone showcase follows a series of commissions, including one for the CEO of a Swiss company.

The turning point in his art practice came with a commissioned Stormtrooper helmet for the Gumball 3000 charity auction. Requiring more than 50 hours of intricate illustration, the project led to further collector demand and cemented his move away from millimetre-perfect design towards an organic approach blending Generation X nostalgia with physical craftsmanship.

"My creative approach is about working within defined windows, whether shaped by the client or the medium. The contours of each object guide my decisions as much as the concept I carry in my mind," Jesse explained. His style, influenced by automotive culture, Star Wars, and pop culture, has also attracted interest from tattoo enthusiasts who see parallels with their own work on the human body.

Using the pseudonym MrDogtooth—originating on Instagram—Jesse distinguishes his artwork from his commercial design business, a dual focus that sustains his practice while building recognition in the contemporary art world.

Looking ahead, Jesse noted: "I'd love to create artwork for a Formula One car or do an art car for a sports car brand." He cites Andy Warhol and Keith Haring as inspirations and sees long-term value in balancing personal creativity with commercial opportunities.
