Moxie Theatre Announces 22nd Season, "Ungovernable"
EntSun News/11095038
Season Features Three Bold Productions and the Return of the Lamoise New Works Festival
SAN DIEGO - EntSun -- MOXIE Theatre today announced its 22nd season, UNGOVERNABLE, a provocative lineup of new plays exploring resistance, power, community and the courage to challenge systems that seek to define us.
Running from October 2026 through June 2027, Season 22 asks audiences to consider what happens when we ask the questions they do not want us to ask, break the rules a little, and exercise our right to resist. Through sharp comedy, urgent political commentary and imaginative storytelling, UNGOVERNABLE celebrates those who refuse to stay within the lines.
"UNGOVERNABLE is a season about disruption, curiosity and collective courage," said Desireé Clarke Miller, Executive Artistic Director of MOXIE Theatre. "These plays challenge us to question the narratives we've inherited, examine the systems that shape our lives, and imagine new possibilities for ourselves and our communities. At a moment when so many people feel powerless, these stories remind us that resistance can take many forms—and that asking difficult questions is often where change begins."
The season opens with This Is Government by Nina Kissinger, running Sept. 27–Oct. 25, 2026. After a bomb threat places all congressional buildings on lockdown, three summer interns find themselves trapped in the one place no one has ever wanted to work overtime: the U.S. government. Kissinger's dark comedy grapples with the real-time consequences of political disarray, offering a hilarious and incisive look at democracy in crisis.

The second production, Lumin by Emma Gibson, runs Feb. 14–March 14, 2027. The pigs are stressed, Liv will not eat, and Ma wants everyone to follow the Constitutions. Set in a modern-day commune on the outskirts of the Chihuahuan Desert in Texas, this compelling new play explores humanity's need for belonging while asking why the line between delusion and accepted belief seems increasingly difficult to distinguish.
Between the second and third productions, MOXIE will present the second edition of the Lamoise New Works Festival, continuing the theatre's commitment to developing and championing new voices. Dedicated to the creation of new work by women+ playwrights, the festival culminates in a weekend of staged readings featuring both full-length and short plays developed during an intensive weeklong workshop process.
Season 22 concludes with Untitled F*ck M*ss S**gon Play by Kimber Lee, running May 2–June 6, 2027. The play follows Kim, who finds herself trapped in a looping nightmare of stereotype, violence and erasure—until she shatters the frame. Fierce, funny and explosive, Lee's acclaimed work confronts the legacy of Western media representations while reclaiming story, agency and power.
