Mixing Love and Business, Ivey Abitz Releases Debut Recording After Thirty Years

He sang her a song before they met. They recorded it together after 30 years of marriage. Now the artists at Ivey Abitz Bespoke Clothing have crossed over into music.

HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y. - EntSun -- Ivey Abitz released its debut recording of More, composed by Riz Ortolani, as part of their newest clothing collection for 2026, the More Collection. The song has held special meaning for the married duo from the moment they met in 1990.

The Ivey Abitz version of More is a stripped down acoustic duet. Says artist Cynthia Ivey Abitz, "We wanted our own experience of the tune to come through, and just let that simple melody sing. Like the whisper of a lover the first time they say 'I love you.' In pre-production, we found a lot of versions by famous popular singers through the decades, but we just couldn't find any duets, which was stunning."

To keep the focus on the vocals, Ivey Abitz kept their instrumentation simple. Josh Ivey Abitz played acoustic guitar and electric bass. Lacking any real drum kit or even any drums at all, Josh got creative. "I've never owned a snare drum. I always use brushes on whatever is at hand. I've tried raw spaghetti on a pot. But the noodles tend to break, and it makes a mess. Plus you go through a lot of spaghetti, and with food prices going up…" On More he used wire brushes on a 1970's metal camera case the size of a briefcase. Josh credits one of his musical heroes, "I grew up listening to Violent Femmes, and Victor DeLorenzo's tranceaphone has always been an inspiration."

The artistic duo started working together in 1996. In their first decade, they created documentary photography. The clothing Cynthia wore while photographing soon turned into a business. And the Ivey Abitz clothing brand was born. Music was always part of their creative process, but never the end product, until now.

On the crossover from clothing to music, Cynthia refuses artistic labels: "There are no boundaries when you are an artist. One medium melts into another and life becomes your canvas. We never thought of ourselves as strictly photographers, and we've never thought of ourselves as strictly clothing designers. We are artists first and foremost."
