Mesa: Turn Your Conservation Idea into Action
EntSun News/11098872
Mesa, a three ~ Mesa, AZ - The City of Mesa is once again leading the charge in promoting conservation, sustainability, and community resiliency through its Mesa Youth Climate Action Fund (MYCAF). The program, now in its third round of funding, is accepting applications from youth ages 15-24 for microgrants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
As a three-time recipient of Bloomberg Philanthropies' Youth Climate Action Fund grant, Mesa has been awarded $40,000 to support youth-led projects this fall. The deadline for applications is September 14th and teams of two or more youth are encouraged to apply. All projects must directly benefit the Mesa community and be completed by March 31st, 2027.
According to Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman, the MYCAF program has already made a significant impact on the community by fostering positive relationships with local groups and engaging youth in creating visible improvements. "Being selected for a third round of funding allows us to further our goals of creating a more resilient community and addressing pressing issues such as water and energy demands," said Mayor Freeman.

In addition to providing financial support for projects, MYCAF also aims to develop important skills in grant writing, budgeting, project management, and community engagement for its young leaders. By pairing youth leadership with real-world conservation projects, the program creates lasting benefits for the community.
Since its inception in 2024-25, MYCAF has awarded over $124,000 in grants for 30 unique youth-led projects that have engaged more than 1,250 community members. These projects have included initiatives such as reducing fast fashion through clothing swaps, water conservation efforts, community tree plantings, and the installation of agrivoltaic demonstration sites.
The success of these projects has led to long-term partnerships and measurable outcomes. For example, waste-reduction commitments are projected to prevent 73 metric tons of COâ‚‚ emissions and divert more than 1,500 pounds of food scraps from landfills each year.
