EntSun News/11101593
~ As the Labor Day holiday weekend approaches, the Mesa Police Department (MPD) is gearing up for increased DUI enforcement. This effort is part of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) DUI Labor Day Task Force, which aims to remove impaired drivers from the road and create safer streets throughout the Valley.

The MPD Traffic Unit will be supporting this statewide initiative from Friday, Sept. 4 through Monday, Sept. 7. Enforcement hours will be in effect during peak times, including Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., and Sunday and Monday afternoons from noon to 10 p.m.

The primary goal of the Labor Day DUI Task Force is to prevent impaired driving and reduce collisions involving impaired drivers. By doing so, law enforcement hopes to decrease the number of injuries and fatalities caused by these preventable crashes.

In light of this effort, the Mesa Police Department is urging everyone to enjoy the holiday weekend responsibly. If alcohol will be involved in your plans, it is important to designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service to ensure a safe trip home.

If you happen to witness any reckless or suspected impaired driving, please report it to your local law enforcement agency as soon as it is safe to do so. The Mesa Police Department can be reached at their non-emergency number: 480-644-2211.

Together, we can all play a role in making this Labor Day weekend safer for everyone on our roadways. Let's work together towards preventing impaired driving and creating a safer community for all.
