Mesa Library Cardholders Borrow More Than 2.7 Million Items, Saving $24.5 Million in 2025

~ Mesa Public Library (MPL) has reported a record-breaking year in 2025, with cardholders borrowing over 2.7 million items, estimated to be worth $2424.5 million if purchased instead of borrowed. These numbers were released as part of National Library Card Sign-Up Month in September, showcasing the diverse ways in which residents are utilizing the library's resources.

The breakdown of the numbers reveals that 1.7 million physical items, such as books and DVDs, were borrowed by cardholders. Additionally, there were 1 million digital circulation transactions for eBooks and audiobooks. The library also saw a total of 127,000 cardholders and 901,000 visits to its branches throughout the year. Furthermore, there were over 69,000 attendees at various events and programs hosted by MPL.

Polly Bonnett, Mesa Library Director, expressed her pride in the library's offerings beyond traditional books. "Today's libraries offer so much more than books, and Mesa Public Library is proud to provide a true range of resources, services and experiences at all of our branches," she stated. "We're excited to see so many people taking advantage of everything their library has to offer, and we're grateful to be a part of their lives and our community."

Mesa Public Library offers an extensive collection of physical and digital resources for its residents. This includes shelves filled with books and movies as well as a vast digital collection of eBooks, audiobooks, music streaming services, movies and TV shows that can be accessed from personal devices. The library also hosts free events for all ages and provides language learning resources along with support for businesses, job seekers and entrepreneurs.

In addition to these services, MPL also offers access to Wi-Fi, computers, printers and other technology such as 3D printers in their THINKspot makerspaces. The library also provides non-traditional items like passes to local arts and cultural institutions, seeds for gardens, sports equipment, Citizen Science kits and more.

Mesa Public Library has four full-service branches located at Main Library, Dobson Ranch Library, Red Mountain Library, and Gateway Library. In 2023, the library also opened the Mesa Express Library at Brady Park, which offers a collection of popular books and self-service options. In 2024, MPL launched the Read Runner bookmobile to make books and resources more accessible to the community.
