Madison: Your Final Spring Yardwaste Collection Begins Soon; Get Your Final Spring Set-out Date Online
EntSun News/11091459
~ As the spring season comes to an end, the Streets Division has announced the final yard waste collection date for 2026. This will be the last opportunity for residents to have their yard waste picked up curbside before collection resumes in the fall.
According to the Yardwaste Website, the set-out date for each neighborhood may vary. Residents are advised to check the website for their specific set-out date. Yard waste includes leaves, weeds, grass clippings, and other plant material that is raked or pulled from lawns or gardens.
It is important to note that branches, limbs, and sticks cut from trees, shrubs, and bushes are considered brush and have a separate pickup schedule. The Streets Division reminds residents not to mix yard waste and brush piles together as they will not be collected.
To ensure efficient collection, residents are asked to place their yard waste at the street edge or on the terrace. It is important not to place yard waste into the street as it can cause obstructions for collection crews. Additionally, residents are advised to keep their yard waste at least four feet away from any obstructions such as street signs, utility poles, mailboxes, trees, or parked cars.

For those who choose to bag their yard waste, compostable paper leaf and lawn bags are recommended. These bags should be kept open so that crews can easily see what is inside. However, if other bags are used, they must also be kept open as crews may need to rip or slice open plastic bags in order to collect the yard waste.
Once collection is over for the season, residents can take their yard waste to one of three drop-off sites provided by the Streets Division. It is important to check the drop-off site website for hours and locations before loading any materials into a vehicle. Alternatively, residents can also consider composting their leaves and yard waste at home.
It is worth noting that yard waste and leaves are not allowed in trash or recycling carts. Residents are reminded to not place any yard waste material into these carts.
The Streets Division explains that the reason for ending yard waste collection in the spring is to allow crews to focus on other duties during the summer months, such as road repair. However, residents can expect curbside pickup for leaves and yard waste to resume in the fall.

The fall set-out dates will be published on the Yardwaste Website later this year. Typically, these dates are finalized and published after the August student move out. Residents can expect them to be available on the website in late August or early September.
For more information on yard waste collection or other services provided by the Streets and Urban Forestry Division, residents can visit their website or contact them directly. As the final spring yard waste collection date approaches, residents are reminded to follow guidelines and ensure a smooth and efficient process for both themselves and collection crews.
